TAQA Morocco Awarded Land to Explore Development of Solar Power
Casablanca, Morocco – April 20, 2022: TAQA Morocco, a leading energy player in Africa, has announced that it has been awarded five land lots to explore the development of solar power by the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy (MASEN). The award falls within the framework of the international call for projects related to the finance, build, operate, maintain and sale of the energy produced by the 400 MW Noor PV II solar project developed under Law no.13-09.
As part of the Noor PV II Solar Program, the awarded lots are located at the Sidi Bennour and Kelaat des Sghrana sites. The land allocation is the first step in the process to potentially develop 96 megawatts (MW) of solar power. Upon more detailed assessment of the five plots, TAQA Morocco will move into the next stage to finalize the technical and commercial development.
Abdelmajid Iraqui Houssaini, CEO and Chairman of TAQA Morocco’s Management Board, said: “This award is the first step toward TAQA Morocco’s ambition to not only leverage our expertise as an energy operator with strong financial performance, but to also further support the country’s ambitions for a diversified and cleaner energy mix.”
Omar Alaoui M’hamdi, Deputy CEO of TAQA Morocco, said: “This is a key milestone in the development of TAQA Morocco in the domestic market and strategic shift towards a greener portfolio.”
