TAQA’s beginnings lie in the provision of power and water in Abu Dhabi.
We have a 54% interest in eight power generation and water desalination facilities across the country, making our UAE assets a key part of our business. The facilities’ availability performance is in the top quartile for the industry and meet approximately 90% of Abu Dhabi emirate’s electricity and water requirements. Our plants also supply clean water to the emirates of Fujairah, Sharjah and Umm Al Quwain.
Our operations in the Netherlands focus on strategic energy infrastructure projects and the exploration and production of oil and gas, both onshore and offshore.
Since acquiring our first North Sea interests in 2006 and assuming operatorship of those assets in 2008, we have played a significant role in exploration and production in the United Kingdom Continental Shelf.
We operate five platforms that produce from 12 fields spread across the northern and central North Sea while owning equity in non-operated fields in the central North Sea. We are also the operator of the Brent System pipeline, which connects the Cormorant Alpha platform to the Sollum Voe Terminal in Shetland and carries approximately 5% of the UK’s oil production.
We are focused on safely and efficiently managing late-life operations in order to maximize economic recovery and life extension.
We operate and own a 90% interest in a 330-megawatt combined-cycle power plant located in Takoradi, which is 220 kilometers west of Accra. The plant meets 15% of the country’s installed capacity.
We own and operate a 250-megawatt lignite-fired power plant in Neyveli in the state of Tamil Nadu in India. The plant sells the entire capacity to Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO), the local state government-owned utility.
We operate and hold a 47.4% working interest in the Atrush Block, a crude oil development located 85 kilometers northwest of Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).
TAQA Morocco, a subsidiary of TAQA Group, is the first private producer of electricity in Morocco and is listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange. Jorf Lasfar power complex delivers more than 40% of Morocco’s electricity demand.
Our North American oil and gas business is focused on conventional oil and gas exploration and production in Canada. We also have power generation investments in the United States, including a gas-fired power station in New Jersey and a windfarm in Minnesota.
