TAQA Group Hosts Key Discussion on Youth and the UAE’s Net Zero Ambitions

Abu Dhabi, UAE – September 19, 2022: Abu Dhabi National Energy Company PJSC (TAQA), one of the largest listed integrated utilities companies in the region, today, hosted a panel discussion on the importance of the UAE’s youth in supporting the country’s ambitions for carbon neutrality by 2050. The event was put together by TAQA’s Youth Council to engage with thought leaders from important stakeholders in Abu Dhabi.

The discussion took place at Khalifa University and featured prominent panellists and industry experts, including, Jasim Husain Thabet, TAQA’s Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, Prof. Sir John O’Reilly, President, Khalifa University and Ibrahim Al-Zu’bi, Chairman, Global Councils Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 13).

A key outcome of the event was that given the UAE and the MENA region’s high proportion of youth in their populations means that young professionals will play a key role in delivering on the country’s sustainability objectives for 2050. These young professionals are likely to be in the executive management roles during that decade.

Jasim Husain Thabet, TAQA Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director, commented: “Capability building is a strategic pillar of our Group strategy, and we see our youth as a core part of this and it was one of the drivers for establishing the TAQA Youth Council. I am incredibly proud to see the Council take initiative to drive critical conversations around the role of youth in assisting the UAE to achieve its net zero ambitions. We, at TAQA, take our commitment to carbon neutrality by the middle of the century very seriously and it is only by fostering partnerships across industries, as well as by nurturing the energy and innovative spirit of youth, that we can realize the net zero goals set forth by our great nation.”
